Sisi Affirms to Trump: Nile River is a National Security Issue for Egypt

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with U.S. President Donald Trump today in Évian, France, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. The two leaders discussed the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States.

According to Ambassador Mohamed Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the presidency, President Sisi congratulated President Trump on the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence. He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to advancing the strategic partnership with the U.S. across various fields, highlighting its role as a foundation for regional stability and peace. President Trump acknowledged this sentiment and expressed his desire to further enhance Egyptian-American relations.

The meeting also focused on increasing political consultations and coordination between both nations to promote peace and prosperity in the region. Additionally, they addressed regional issues, with President Sisi congratulating Trump on his success in reaching an agreement with Iran. He stressed that this agreement should pave the way for ending conflicts in the Middle East, showcasing Trump’s ability to resolve global disputes.

Ambassador Shenawy noted that President Sisi expressed Egypt’s readiness to collaborate with regional and international partners to support efforts aimed at achieving sustainable solutions to ongoing issues. In turn, President Trump praised Egypt’s pivotal role and President Sisi’s personal contributions in supporting negotiations and de-escalation in the region.

Furthermore, President Sisi highlighted his hope that future efforts would lead to resolutions of various conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian issue, which he deemed essential for lasting peace and stability in the region. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to coordinating with the U.S. to implement all aspects of Trump’s peace plan for Gaza while working towards restoring calm and stability.

The two leaders also discussed water issues, with President Sisi underscoring the critical nature of the Nile River as a national security matter for Egypt. He expressed appreciation for Trump’s attention to this vital issue, while Trump assured him that he would prioritize a fair resolution regarding Egyptian concerns over water security.
