President Sisi Highlights Growing Egypt-Europe Relations During G7 Meeting

On Tuesday, President egypts-media-minister-discusses-regional-position-amid-ongoing-crisis/">Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, in Évian, France, during the G7 summit.
The official spokesperson for the presidency stated that President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the growing trajectory of Egypt-Europe relations, particularly following the elevation of these ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. He highlighted the significance of the first summit between Egypt and the European Union scheduled for October 2025, emphasizing the need to continue efforts to strengthen relations across various sectors, especially economic, trade, and investment. He also noted the importance of enhancing political consultation and coordination between both sides to promote regional peace and stability.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, noted that Costa praised the existing strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU. He commended the progress in relations between both parties and affirmed the European side’s commitment to further enhancing this partnership across multiple areas for mutual benefit.
The meeting also addressed current regional developments. President Sisi welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that it would contribute to de-escalation in a region that has experienced heightened tensions recently. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to working with Europe toward comprehensive and sustainable resolutions for various crises in the region, especially given their shared perspectives on many issues.
In this context, President Sisi stressed the importance of adhering to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, maintaining calm in the area, ensuring unobstructed humanitarian aid access, and initiating early recovery efforts and reconstruction in Gaza.
The spokesperson added that Costa emphasized the crucial nature of close coordination between Egypt and the EU aimed at achieving regional and international peace while addressing various regional crises. He acknowledged Egypt’s role in establishing stability in the region and its efforts to support negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Costa also appreciated the close cooperation between Egypt and the EU in combating terrorism and illegal immigration, underscoring its significance for achieving peace and prosperity on both sides of the Mediterranean.
