Egypt and Rwanda Explore Regulatory and Pharmaceutical Cooperation to Boost Exports

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority, held a meeting with Dr. Emil Biayefenu, Director General of the Rwanda Food and Drug Authority (Rwanda FDA), to discuss mechanisms for joint cooperation in regulatory and pharmaceutical fields.

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Ghamrawy highlighted the Egyptian Drug Authority’s efforts to enhance its regulatory system in line with the latest international standards. He emphasized its role in ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of medical products, thereby increasing the competitiveness of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry both regionally and internationally.

The two parties addressed ways to strengthen technical cooperation, exchange expertise, and build capacities. They also discussed supporting the registration and distribution of medical products to ensure safe and effective medications are available to citizens in both countries. Additionally, they explored new avenues for exporting Egyptian products to the Rwandan market in alignment with the goals of pharmaceutical integration across Africa.

Dr. Biayefenu also met with representatives from Egyptian companies participating in an exhibition, including EVA Pharma and Pharco Pharmaceuticals, to review the latest products and export capabilities of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry.

His visit included a tour of laboratories at the Egyptian Drug Authority, accompanied by Dr. Widian Younis, Head of the Central Administration for Drug Control. He praised the advanced technical capabilities and the role of laboratories in supporting regulatory systems and ensuring product quality according to global standards.

In this context, he visited several Egyptian companies such as Markerl Pharmaceutical Industries, Mina Pharm Pharmaceuticals, and Utopia Pharmaceutical Industries to observe their latest production lines and manufacturing technologies.

Dr. Biayefenu expressed his admiration for Egypt’s advancements in both industrial and regulatory aspects of the pharmaceutical sector, reaffirming Rwanda’s commitment to benefiting from Egypt’s expertise in enhancing its own drug system.

This initiative is part of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to building effective regulatory partnerships with African oversight bodies and solidifying Egypt’s position as a reliable regional hub for pharmaceutical industries by showcasing its technical and manufacturing capabilities while promoting opportunities for exporting medical products to African markets.
