Egypt and Tunisia Strengthen Cooperation in Pharmaceutical Regulation

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, the head of the Egyptian Drug Authority, met with Dr. Soumaya Milad, Director General of the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products of Tunisia (ANMPS), to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation in regulatory and pharmaceutical fields. The aim is to exchange expertise that will contribute to the development of regulatory systems and strengthen pharmaceutical integration between the two countries.
During the meeting, Dr. Al-Ghamrawi presented the efforts of the Egyptian Drug Authority in developing its regulatory framework in accordance with the latest international standards. He highlighted the achievements made in regulating and circulating medical products, ensuring their quality, safety, and efficacy, which enhances the competitiveness of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry both regionally and internationally.
Dr. Al-Ghamrawi emphasized that strengthening collaboration with Tunisia’s National Agency for Medicines is a significant step towards supporting regulatory integration among Arab and African nations. He noted that exchanging experiences in drug regulation and product registration would improve regulatory efficiency and accelerate access to safe and effective medicines for citizens in both countries.

Dr. Soumaya Milad expressed her appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with the Egyptian Drug Authority, affirming her agency’s commitment to expanding partnership areas in the future, particularly in capacity building and technical expertise exchange. This aims to support pharmaceutical system development and enhance integration between the two countries in the health sector.
The two sides also discussed opportunities for enhancing technical and organizational cooperation between their institutions, sharing experiences and best practices in drug regulation, inspection, pharmacovigilance, and medical product registration. They explored mechanisms to support capacity building and develop personnel working within the pharmaceutical sector.
Additionally, they reviewed updates on a proposed memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Drug Authority and Tunisia’s ANMPS, discussing necessary steps to finalize technical and organizational procedures ahead of its signing. This aims to bolster institutional cooperation and enhance experience exchange in areas of mutual regulatory interest.
The meeting also addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Tunisia in pharmaceutical industries by leveraging accumulated expertise from both countries as leading pharmaceutical centers in Africa. This collaboration aims to support drug production and improve access for medical products into regional and African markets.
Both parties stressed the importance of continued coordination and collaboration moving forward, exchanging organizational and technical expertise that supports pharmaceutical system development while maximizing available resources from both sides.
This meeting reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to strengthening cooperative relations with Arab and African regulatory bodies, fostering strategic partnerships that enhance regulatory quality, improve access to medical products, and achieve pharmaceutical integration at regional and continental levels.
