Referee Expert Claims Egypt Deserved Penalty Against Belgium

Tawfiq El Sayed, a refereeing expert, stated that Egypt was the superior team during their match against Belgium in the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing that the Pharaohs deserved to win.

In remarks made on the “Number One” program hosted by Mohamed Shobana on CBC, El Sayed said, “Egypt deserved to win against Belgium; we were the better side throughout the match.”.

He added, “The Brazilian referee performed well in the Egypt-Belgium match and was fair to both teams during the encounter. He only faced a challenging decision with a play involving Ahmed Sayed Zizo.”.

El Sayed continued, “Zizo deserved a clear penalty kick, and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) should have called the on-field referee to review the incident. The assistant referee should have intervened in this case as well.”.

Concluding his statements, the refereeing expert remarked, “There is an issue with the VAR room during this World Cup; it was the VAR official who compromised the match referee by not calling him to review the play.”.
