A Cairo court has sentenced Hani Shokry, a member of the Zamalek Club board, to six months in prison for insulting fans of Al Ahly Club. The ruling, issued on Monday by Judge Mostafa El-Badawy at the Qasr El-Nil Misdemeanor Court, also included a temporary bail of 5,000 Egyptian pounds and a fine of 10,000 pounds, along with legal costs.

The court found that Shokry had directed offensive remarks towards Al Ahly fans that damaged their honor and reputation, using public platforms to do so.

The case dates back to June 5, 2025, when a video surfaced on social media showing Shokry at a condolence gathering. In the footage, he was seen greeting someone while stating, “I will greet you because you are respectable; I do not greet Ahly fans,” followed by inappropriate comments that sparked outrage among sports fans.

Following the incident, Mohamed Osman, the legal advisor for Al Ahly Club, filed a formal complaint with the Egyptian Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee. The committee subsequently suspended Shokry for three months and imposed a fine of 50,000 pounds for his actions, which were described as a blatant violation of sportsmanship and an unacceptable affront to a prestigious sports institution and its supporters.

Al Ahly’s administration went further by filing an official complaint with the public prosecutor’s office, backed by documents and digital evidence incriminating Shokry. The Qasr El-Nil prosecution began investigations into the incident. During questioning, Shokry acknowledged the authenticity of the video but claimed he did not intend to offend Al Ahly or its fans.

The prosecution released him on bail of 5,000 pounds before referring him to the misdemeanor court that delivered today’s verdict.
