Weather Alert: Dust and Sandstorms Expected to Reduce Visibility

Written byNoha El Shafie

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority has issued a weather alert for the upcoming hours, forecasting dust and sandstorms originating from northern Sudan.

These conditions are expected to advance northward, impacting areas such as Halayeb and Shalateen, with visibility potentially dropping below 1,000 meters starting at 11 AM on Monday, June 15, 2026.

This warning comes as part of the authority’s ongoing monitoring of weather conditions through the latest satellite images and weather maps.

The extreme southern regions of the country will also experience dust and sand carried from northern Sudan, which may further deteriorate visibility in parts of Halayeb and Shalateen. Authorities are advising residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of these anticipated weather phenomena.

Weather Forecast Statement

Experts from the Meteorological Authority predict hot daytime temperatures across northern Egypt up to Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt, with very hot conditions expected in southern Upper Egypt. Nights will be mild across most areas but warmer in southern Upper Egypt.

Morning fog is anticipated on routes leading to northern Egypt, Greater Cairo, the canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, which may become dense at times. Winds will be active in areas of Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, southern Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, potentially stirring up dust and sand in parts of the Red Sea Governorate intermittently. There is a low chance of light rain on the northeastern coastal areas and northern Nile Delta.

The Mediterranean Sea is expected to be moderate with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 2 meters and northwesterly winds. In contrast, the Red Sea is predicted to be moderate to rough with wave heights between 1.5 to 2.5 meters also featuring northwesterly winds. The Gulf of Suez will experience similar conditions with moderate to rough waves at similar heights.
