Pedro Porro Signs New Contract with Tottenham Hotspur Until 2031

Written byFerdous Saeed

Pablo Porro, the right-back for Tottenham Hotspur, has officially signed a new contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Since joining from Manchester City and Sporting Lisbon in January 2023, Porro has emerged as a pivotal player for the team, contributing significantly with 13 goals and 26 assists across 152 appearances in all competitions.

Last season, he recorded two goals and six assists in 47 matches, playing a vital role in helping Tottenham secure Premier League survival on the final day of the season. This performance has increased the club’s prospects of retaining top talents like Porro.

Previously, Porro’s contract was set to expire in 2028. The 26-year-old had been linked with a potential return to Manchester City, where he did not make any appearances during his earlier tenure.

However, reports emerged last week indicating that Tottenham and Porro were nearing an agreement on a new deal, which was confirmed by the club on Sunday evening.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Porro’s new contract will extend for at least five years until 2031, with an option for Tottenham to trigger an additional year until 2032.

The defender is also expected to receive a salary increase from his current £85,000-a-week wage, which places him as only the 11th-highest earner at Spurs, behind players such as Richarlison and Joao Palhinha.

The exact increase in salary remains unclear; however, it is anticipated that his new deal will reflect his status as one of Tottenham’s most reliable players over the past three-and-a-half years.

Porro is now the second Spurs player to extend his contract this month; fellow defender Ben Davies signed a new one-year deal last week.

He played a crucial role in Tottenham’s Europa League success last season, scoring two goals and providing three assists over 13 matches, including a full 90 minutes in their 1-0 victory against Manchester United in the final.

Currently, Porro is with the Spain national team preparing for their World Cup 2026 opener against Cape Verde, although he may lose his starting position to Marcos Llorente at right-back.

The Lilywhites now face potential departures of four players who are set to become free agents in 2028. This includes creative talents Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison.

Discussions regarding an extension with Kulusevski are expected to remain stagnant as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury. Meanwhile, securing fresh terms for Maddison should be a priority for sporting director Johan Lange.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and defender Ashley Phillips are also out of contract in two years; however, Vicario is being pursued by Juventus while Phillips has yet to establish himself in the first team.

Looking ahead, Richarlison and Dane Scarlett could both leave without contracts by 2027; however, neither player has performed sufficiently to merit new deals at this time.
