Written byNoha El Shafie

Dr. Manal Awad, the Minister of Local Development and Environment, announced the commencement of development works at the Jadila bus station in Mansoura, Daqahlia Governorate. The project aims to transform the station into a comprehensive urban facility, with a total investment of approximately 48.05 million EGP funded entirely by the Ministry’s development plan.

Dr. Awad highlighted that this initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to upgrade main transportation hubs across governorates, enhancing public transport services and contributing to improved service delivery for citizens. It aligns with directives from political leadership to enhance public transport systems in various governorates and convert informal stations into organized urban facilities.

During a recent briefing, Dr. Awad reviewed a report from Dr. Said Helmy Abdel Khalek, Head of Integrated Planning and Local Development Sector, regarding the project’s implementation status. The project is being executed by the Central Agency for Reconstruction, with site handover completed on February 22, 2026. The construction phase is expected to last for 12 months, targeting completion by February 21, 2027.

The report indicated that the project aims to convert the current station into a fully integrated urban facility spanning approximately 7,385 square meters. This transformation will help organize internal transport movements, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance service quality for citizens and drivers alike.

The new station will serve ten internal routes with a capacity of up to 205 vehicles, including 185 microbuses and 20 service vehicles, based on a specialized traffic study to ensure organized vehicle entry and exit.

The engineering designs for the project have been optimized to make the best use of available space while addressing technical challenges related to the existing station and its urban surroundings. This will ensure maximum operational efficiency and safe access for all transportation lines passing through the station. The designs include organized fencing along Imam Muhammad Abdu Street to manage vehicle movements through five main gates, as well as metallic canopies over parking areas for enhanced safety and organization.

The project will also feature a comprehensive service building that includes restrooms, security monitoring rooms, fire pump rooms, and civil protection networks. Additionally, there will be well-organized waiting areas for citizens and future spaces designated for cafeterias and supporting services within the station. As of now, construction work has reached approximately 22% completion, ensuring adherence to the specified timeline.

Dr. Manal Awad emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the project’s schedule and continuous field monitoring throughout all phases of execution to ensure timely completion according to high technical standards. She noted that upgrading urban bus stations directly impacts daily mobility for citizens by reducing congestion and chaotic street parking while providing greater safety and organization within public transport systems. This aligns with national goals for improving infrastructure and local services under Egypt’s Vision 2030.

In his remarks, Dr. Said Helmy Abdel Khalek confirmed that this project represents a significant step in the Ministry’s plan to develop primary transportation systems in governorates while gradually eliminating informal stations and enhancing urban aesthetics along with operational efficiency and safety standards within bus stations.
