Ten Hospitals in Minya Ready for Transition to Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, chaired a meeting of the Coordinating Committee for the Comprehensive Health Insurance System to finalize preparations for its implementation in Minya, set to be the first governorate in the second phase of this initiative. This meeting took place during his field tour in the governorate on Saturday.
The meeting was attended by Major General Emad El-Kadwani, Governor of Minya, Dr. Essam El-Din Sadiq, President of Minya University, Dr. Abla El-Afifi, Deputy Minister for Population and Primary Care, Dr. Ahmed Taha, Head of the Health Accreditation and Control Authority, Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Head of the General Authority for Health Care, and Engineer Hossam Sadiq, Executive Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, along with several other executive leaders.
During the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of implementing this system in Minya, which has a population of approximately 7 million residents. He directed that integrated institutional work be reinforced according to political leadership directives while leveraging experiences from the first phase.
He expressed gratitude to all concerned parties for their efforts in medically and administratively preparing facilities and stressed the significance of collaboration with university hospitals and the private sector as key partners in ensuring the system’s success.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the ministry, reported that discussions included readiness assessments for ten hospitals transitioning to the Health Care Authority’s oversight. Additionally, preparations have been completed for 60 primary care facilities (49 health units and 11 medical centers) serving 1.283 million people, with 29 facilities accredited by the Health Accreditation and Control Authority. Digital transformation has also been activated in 15 health facilities.
The minister instructed that all necessary requirements be provided to complete facility preparations while ensuring a trial operation period of one year to facilitate continuous improvement and uphold high-quality standards for complex surgical services.
In his remarks, Governor El-Kadwani praised the efforts made thus far and asserted that implementing this system will significantly enhance health services in Minya. The President of Minya University also reviewed their preparedness status, noting that they operate nine hospitals with a total capacity of 1,700 beds, four of which are accredited by the authority.
Following the meeting, the minister met with several members of both houses of parliament to discuss collaborative mechanisms and address any challenges that may arise during implementation.
