Egypt and Switzerland Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held a phone call with Ignazio Cassis, Switzerland’s Foreign Minister, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on various regional issues of mutual interest.

During the conversation, Minister Abdel Aty praised the continuous development of Egyptian-Swiss relations, especially as the two countries mark over 90 years of diplomatic ties. He expressed hopes for enhancing cooperation across political, economic, and commercial sectors, emphasizing the importance of increasing trade volume and encouraging Swiss investments in infrastructure projects, including those in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and new urban development initiatives.

Regarding regional developments, Minister Abdel Aty highlighted Egypt’s intensive efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the U.S.-Iranian negotiation track and stressed the importance of seizing the current opportunity to reach a comprehensive agreement on outstanding issues that would contribute to ending ongoing conflicts and fostering a new phase of regional stability.

In response, the Swiss Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Egypt’s constructive role in supporting efforts for de-escalation and enhancing regional stability.

Palestinian Issue Developments

The ministers also exchanged views on developments concerning the Palestinian issue. Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the importance of implementing the first phase of the U.S. plan and initiating the second phase. He urged that the National Committee for Gaza Management should commence its duties from within Gaza and called for a swift deployment of an international stabilization force to support efforts in restoring security and stability.

Situation in Sudan

Concerning the situation in Sudan, Minister Abdel Aty underscored the significance of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while supporting its national institutions. He rejected any attempts to establish parallel entities. He also stressed the necessity for a comprehensive political process led by Sudanese ownership that would lead to an end to conflict, highlighting the importance of reaching a humanitarian ceasefire that facilitates humanitarian aid access and alleviates the suffering of the Sudanese people.
