Dr. Manal Awad, the Minister of Local Development and Environment, praised a commendable act by a fish trader at the Abouir Market who rescued six endangered sea turtles. The trader purchased the turtles and reached out to the Environmental Affairs Agency to facilitate their transfer to the rehabilitation center at Ashotum El Gamal Protected Area for care and eventual return to their natural habitat.

The Environmental Affairs Agency swiftly intervened through its Nature Conservation Sector, transporting the turtles to the Turtle Rescue Center at Ashotum El Gamal. There, they underwent necessary medical examinations and were tagged with Egyptian codes in preparation for their release back into the sea. This incident underscores the importance of collaboration between citizens and the state in protecting biodiversity and conserving nature.

Dr. Manal Awad stated, “Citizen awareness is a fundamental pillar in protecting the environment, preserving biodiversity, safeguarding endangered marine species, and conserving natural resources.”.
