Egypt’s Agricultural Exports Exceed 5 Million Tons, Citrus Fruits Lead the Market

Alaa Farouk, Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, announced that the country’s agricultural exports have surpassed 5 million tons this year, reflecting a growing global demand for Egyptian produce and showcasing the government’s success in enhancing the agricultural sector’s competitiveness on the international stage.
An official report from the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine within the Agricultural Services Sector detailed the export performance of key crops. Citrus fruits continue to dominate exports with over 2 million tons shipped, followed by fresh potatoes at approximately 883,000 tons. Sweet potato exports reached 189,000 tons.
According to the report, fresh and dried bean exports exceeded 110,000 tons, with fresh onions following at over 85,000 tons. Additionally, grape exports totaled 58,000 tons, while fresh strawberries reached 40,000 tons. Significant quantities of fresh garlic, tomatoes, guavas, and pomegranates also ranked highly in exports.
Moreover, the ministry highlighted its success in opening 21 new global markets for agricultural products across various continents during the first half of 2026. This expansion marks a significant step in broadening Egypt’s export map. Recently, Egyptian agricultural products have entered promising international markets with stringent quarantine requirements, including new markets in Asia such as Uzbekistan and Vietnam. In Latin America and the Caribbean, new markets were opened in Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Panama, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic.
Minister Alaa Farouk emphasized that this rapid expansion signifies increasing international confidence in Egypt’s regulatory and tracking systems. It also confirms that national produce meets high safety and quality standards globally. He reiterated ongoing efforts by the ministry to collaborate with producers and exporters to maintain these achievements and support the national economy.
