Manchester United Eye Newcastle’s Lewis Hall and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson as Left-Back Options
Manchester United has reportedly placed Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson on their transfer shortlist as they seek competition for Luke Shaw this summer.
The Red Devils are focusing on a midfield overhaul, with a deal for Atalanta BC’s Ederson nearly finalized, along with the potential addition of two more players in that position. However, the need for a new left-back has emerged as a crucial aspect of their summer strategy following Tyrell Malacia’s departure on a free transfer.
While young talents Harry Amass and Diego Leon, both 19, are recognized for their potential, they are not considered ready to assume regular roles next season. Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu has shown promise in an advanced position during the latter part of last season, leading head coach Michael Carrick to view him more as an attacking option rather than a defensive one.
Hall and Robinson Identified as Targets
According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United has identified Hall and Robinson as viable left-back targets for the upcoming transfer window. Hall, who unexpectedly missed out on England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, is reportedly unsettled at St James’ Park and is anticipated to leave this summer.
The 21-year-old is said to be interested in a move to Old Trafford after contributing one goal and two assists across 46 appearances for Newcastle last season. However, any potential transfer would likely come at a high cost, with Hall under contract until June 2029 and rumored to be valued at around £50 million.
Robinson: A More Affordable Alternative
In contrast, Robinson presents a more budget-friendly option. The USA international boasts significant Premier League experience with 158 appearances in the top flight, where he has scored once and provided 17 assists. Last season, he recorded one goal and one assist in 26 matches for Fulham, and he is also reportedly on Liverpool’s radar.
Luke Shaw served as Manchester United’s primary left-back last season, enjoying one of his most successful campaigns since joining the club in 2014. The 30-year-old played every Premier League match during the 2025-26 season, contributing one goal and one assist along the way.
