Egypt’s Foreign Minister Stresses Importance of Libya’s Unity in Talks with Greek Counterpart
Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis as part of ongoing discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments.
The two ministers praised the depth of the bilateral ties between Egypt and Greece and welcomed the advancements made, particularly the elevation to a strategic partnership level.
Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the importance of further strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two nations, highlighting Greece’s support for Egypt within various European Union institutions.
During their conversation, they also addressed regional developments and the rapid changes occurring in the area. Minister Abdel Aty outlined Egypt’s intensive communications and efforts aimed at de-escalation, reaffirming Egypt’s support for the U.S.-Iranian negotiation process.
In response, Gerapetritis expressed Greece’s appreciation for Egypt’s diligent efforts to achieve de-escalation and stability.
The ministers exchanged views on the Palestinian issue, with Minister Abdel Aty stressing the need to implement the first phase of the American plan and initiate the second phase. He highlighted the importance of the National Committee for Gaza’s management beginning its duties from within the sector and quickly deploying an international stabilization force.
The discussion also covered the situation in Libya, where Minister Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position advocating for Libya’s unity and stability. He called for unifying Libyan institutions and achieving a comprehensive Libyan-led solution that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people while preserving their sovereignty. He underscored the necessity of continuing efforts to advance Libya’s political process towards simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
The two ministers agreed on the need to maintain coordination and consultation within the framework of their strategic relationship and to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
