Written byNoha El Shafie

The Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF), in collaboration with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), has announced the opening of applications for scientific collaboration programs between the Arab Republic of Egypt and Japan. This initiative aims to support and enhance international research collaboration and knowledge exchange between researchers from both countries, under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

This announcement aligns with the government’s strategy to strengthen international scientific partnerships, support applied scientific research, and expand cooperation with prestigious global research institutions, thereby improving the efficiency of the research ecosystem and fostering innovation.

The programs include a joint scientific collaboration project aimed at facilitating joint research projects between scientists and researchers in Egypt and Japan through enabling scientific visits. This initiative enhances research collaboration and knowledge exchange, with project durations extending up to two years. Funding for the Egyptian side can reach up to 1.5 million Egyptian pounds, equating to 750,000 pounds annually.

Additionally, there is a program for workshops and scientific seminars designed to support the organization of joint scientific workshops or participation in workshops between both sides. This initiative aims to develop research capabilities and enhance academic cooperation, with funding available up to 450,000 Egyptian pounds for a maximum duration of one week.

Dr. Walaa Sheta, CEO of the STDF, emphasized that these programs reflect the authority’s commitment to enhancing international scientific collaboration and building effective research partnerships with leading global scientific institutions. He noted that Egyptian-Japanese cooperation serves as an exemplary model for integration in research, development, and innovation fields.

He added that these initiatives provide broader opportunities for Egyptian researchers to engage in impactful joint research projects with significant scientific and practical outcomes, thereby enhancing Egypt’s position on the international scientific map.

The authority indicated that the deadline for submitting applications is September 3, 2026, at 2 PM Cairo time.
