Minya University Hospitals Ranked Among the World’s Top 10 for Stroke Treatment

Dr. Essam Farhat, President of Minya University, announced on Thursday that the university has achieved a significant medical and scientific milestone by having its stroke unit recognized as one of the top ten centers globally for the registration and treatment of stroke patients from January 1 to May 31, 2026.
This achievement was reported based on findings from the SITS International Registry, one of the largest and most important international databases dedicated to stroke research and treatment.
Farhat emphasized that this international classification reflects the substantial advancements in Minya University’s medical system and the ongoing support provided by the university to enhance health and treatment services according to the latest global standards. He noted that this accomplishment is a testament to the efforts of the medical, nursing, technical, and administrative teams within the stroke unit, which boasts qualified personnel and advanced equipment that contribute to delivering high-level specialized medical services.
He added that Minya University’s inclusion in this prestigious list underscores its distinguished scientific and medical standing both regionally and internationally. It also highlights the university’s success in implementing cutting-edge global treatment protocols for strokes and brain hemorrhages while fully adhering to quality standards in medical data recording according to internationally accepted criteria.
Furthermore, Farhat noted that this achievement opens up extensive opportunities for the university to participate in more international multi-center studies and research, thereby enhancing its prospects for international scientific publication and solidifying Minya University’s role as a leading academic and medical center in neuroscience and stroke treatment.
Dr. Ayman Hassanain, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, who is also the Executive Director of University Hospitals, stated that this international recognition is a result of integrated institutional work within university hospitals. The focus has been on developing stroke treatment systems that ensure rapid diagnosis and therapeutic intervention based on the latest global medical practices. He affirmed that the stroke unit has become an advanced model for specialized healthcare in Upper Egypt.
Dr. Ihab Refaat, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of University Hospitals Board, confirmed that selecting the stroke unit among the best global centers serves as an international endorsement of the Faculty of Medicine’s efficiency and reflects significant progress in medical, educational, and research services within the university.
Dr. Nouran Ali Hamdi, Head of Neurology and Psychiatry Department, highlighted that this achievement was made possible through continuous efforts from the stroke unit’s team and strict adherence to international registration and treatment standards, along with effective contributions to global studies related to strokes.
The SITS International Registry is recognized as one of the largest international platforms dedicated to monitoring and evaluating outcomes for stroke patients worldwide.
