Manchester City Pursues Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali in Transfer Market

Manchester City is actively navigating the transfer market as it prepares for a new chapter following the departure of Pep Guardiola. With Enzo Maresca, the former Chelsea manager, set to take the helm at the Etihad Stadium, bolstering the midfield has become a key priority for the club ahead of the upcoming season.

Recent updates from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicate that City has made a substantial new bid for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson while also considering another Premier League midfielder.

City Submits Enhanced Offer for Anderson

According to Romano, Manchester City has put forth an improved offer totaling £106 million guaranteed, with an additional £15 million in potential add-ons for the England international. This brings the total proposed package to approximately £121 million. Nottingham Forest is reportedly holding out for a fixed fee exceeding £120 million due to interest from rival clubs, notably Manchester United.

City has been at the forefront of the race for Anderson since March and remains hopeful of reaching an agreement. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of England’s most promising young talents, seen as a potential cornerstone in Maresca’s midfield strategy.

However, City is also preparing for alternative options should negotiations become challenging. Romano notes that Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is included on their shortlist—another player who has caught Manchester United’s attention.

The Italy international has long been admired by City and would bring valuable Premier League experience, technical skill, and leadership to their midfield.

Possibility of Signing Both Players

While it may seem ambitious, securing both Anderson and Tonali is not entirely out of reach. The departure of Bernardo Silva has created a significant gap in City’s midfield options, and uncertainty surrounding Rodri’s future—with ongoing links to Real Madrid—adds to the urgency. Even if Rodri remains at the club, Maresca might feel compelled to enhance an aging midfield.

Both players would bring unique attributes: Anderson is known for his energetic style and ability to drive forward, while Tonali offers experience in controlling tempo and providing tactical stability in deeper positions.

Manchester United is also pursuing both players as part of their midfield overhaul under Michael Carrick, underscoring their high regard across the Premier League landscape.

As Manchester City embarks on this new era post-Guardiola, it would not be surprising to see them pursue multiple midfield reinforcements rather than relying solely on one marquee signing.
