Iran’s Alireza Jahanbakhsh Highlights Challenges Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Alireza Jahanbakhsh, the forward for the Iranian national team, has expressed the difficulties faced by players as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Cup amidst challenging political and security conditions in their home country.

Iran will compete in the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, amid heightened tensions following escalating events among international parties in the Middle East. This situation has directly impacted players’ focus and preparations.

The Iranian team is placed in a tough group alongside Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand. They will kick off their campaign against New Zealand on Monday before facing Belgium on June 21 in Englewood, California, and concluding their group stage matches against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.

In statements reported by ESPN, Jahanbakhsh explained that the current situation within Iran makes it challenging for players to separate football from the realities faced by their families back home.
