England’s Friendly Match Against Costa Rica Postponed Due to Severe Weather
England’s national football team faced an unexpected setback in their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, as their friendly match against Costa Rica was postponed due to severe weather conditions affecting Orlando, Florida.
The English squad was gearing up for their final warm-up match before the tournament, which is set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, the adverse weather prevented the game from proceeding as scheduled.
According to British newspaper The Athletic, the match was originally slated for Wednesday evening but was delayed due to storms and unpredictable weather in the region. A new date for the fixture has yet to be announced.
The Football Association (FA) released a statement on its official platforms confirming the postponement due to weather conditions, stating that further updates regarding the match will be provided as soon as new information becomes available.
In their statement, the FA emphasized that the safety of players and fans was the primary reason for this decision given Orlando’s unstable weather conditions.
This postponement marks the second such incident during warm-up matches held in the United States as teams prepare for the World Cup. A previous friendly between Argentina and Iceland also experienced a delay due to thunderstorms and heavy rain impacting the stadium in Alabama.
The fluctuating weather raises questions about how such conditions might affect preparatory matches in the U.S. just days before what is expected to be the largest World Cup in history.
