Egypt’s Prime Minister Inaugurates Production of First Locally-Made Nissan Magnite
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, inaugurated the production of the first locally-made Nissan Magnite in Africa at the Nissan Egypt factory located in 6th of October City. This milestone event underscores Egypt’s ambitions to establish itself as a regional hub for automotive manufacturing.
The inauguration took place during a tour by Madbouly, who was also present to open and inspect various industrial projects across different sectors.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry; Dr. Ahmed El Ansari, Governor of Giza; Jordi Villa, Vice President of Nissan Europe and Africa; and Mohamed Abd El-Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Africa. The Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, Fumio Iwai, along with other officials and local component suppliers, also participated in the event.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized that this event exemplifies Egypt’s strategy to deepen and localize manufacturing, particularly in the vital automotive sector. He reiterated the government’s commitment to support major global companies in building a robust industrial base in Egypt that facilitates technology transfer and enhances local content while opening new export markets.
Dr. Mohamed Farid noted that the commencement of production for this new model reflects Egypt’s attractive investment climate and its ability to attract leading global firms. He highlighted that the ministry is working on providing further investment incentives and trade facilitation measures to expand the automotive sector, thereby enhancing Egyptian exports’ competitiveness in regional and international markets.
Engineer Khaled Hashem pointed out that this initiative is a significant outcome of implementing the national strategy for developing the automotive industry. He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to increasing local manufacturing rates by supporting local suppliers and enhancing productivity within auxiliary industries.
During his speech at the celebration, Mohamed Abd El-Samad expressed pride in launching the new model, affirming Nissan’s long-term commitment to supporting Egypt’s industrial growth since becoming a fully owned subsidiary of Nissan globally in 2004.
He revealed that total investments by Nissan have exceeded $276 million at their factory spanning 104,000 square meters. The company successfully produced approximately 30,000 vehicles last year while upgrading its production lines to increase capacity to 50,000 vehicles annually and raising local content from 51% to 55%. Additionally, over 25,000 vehicles have been exported in recent years.
Abd El-Samad highlighted that Nissan plays a crucial role as an industrial player in Egypt by providing over 1,000 direct job opportunities and around 5,000 indirect jobs within its supplier ecosystem. He noted that 2025 has been a remarkable year for Nissan as it led the passenger car segment with an unprecedented market share of 18.6% in its history in Egypt.
He further outlined plans for future investments following the issuance of the Automotive Industry Development Plan (AIDP), announcing an additional investment of $45 million set for late 2024 to prepare for new production lines starting from early fiscal year 2025.
The locally assembled Nissan Magnite is equipped with a turbocharged engine rated at 1000cc and producing 100 horsepower. It meets Euro 6 emission standards with a fuel consumption rate of 5.8 liters per 100 km while designed for a five-star safety rating featuring six airbags and advanced safety technologies.
Abd El-Samad also discussed Nissan’s commitment to sustainability through reliance on solar energy for approximately 65% of factory energy needs with plans to reach 100% by 2030 while implementing advanced water treatment solutions to enhance resource efficiency.
Massimiliano Max Messina, President of Nissan Africa Middle East India Europe Oceania Region expressed pride in celebrating this historic launch marking the first locally manufactured Nissan Magnite in Africa specifically on Egyptian soil. He emphasized that this achievement not only introduces a new vehicle but also highlights Egypt’s growing role as a manufacturing hub.
Messina stated that with the addition of this new production line, they aim to increase annual production capacity by an additional 10,000 units further solidifying Egypt’s position as an automotive excellence center.
Nissan has celebrated another significant milestone with over 350,000 vehicles produced in Egypt over two decades which translates into job opportunities created and skills developed benefiting families across communities.
The Prime Minister concluded his visit by touring production lines at the factory where he received insights from Engineer Walid Fathy about operational capabilities related to Magnite’s assembly line while appreciating quality standards maintained throughout production processes.
