Bayern Munich Initiates Contact for Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic Amid Spurs’ Defensive Overhaul

Written byFerdous Saeed

Bayern Munich has reportedly made initial contact with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the potential transfer of defender Luka Vuskovic. The young Croatian has emerged as a target for the German giants as Spurs look to reshape their squad.

This summer, Tottenham has already been active in the transfer market, securing Andrew Robertson on a free transfer, and it is believed that centre-back Marcos Senesi has also joined the club.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi is implementing significant changes to the team’s defense, prompting fans to advocate for the inclusion of Vuskovic in the first team next season.

The 19-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Hamburger SV after arriving from Hajduk Split for £12 million in July 2025. Journalist Gianluigi Longari reports that Vuskovic is open to a summer exit from Tottenham, with Bayern Munich and several Premier League clubs vying for his signature. Initial discussions between Bayern and Tottenham have reportedly taken place.

Luka Vuskovic: A Key Asset for Spurs

Tottenham faced a challenging season in 2025-26, narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League. A fresh start is essential if they hope to improve in the upcoming campaign.

Despite his youth, integrating Vuskovic into the first-team squad could be pivotal for Spurs as they aim to rise in the league standings.

During his loan spell at Hamburger SV, Vuskovic played 28 matches in the Bundesliga and showcased impressive statistics, winning 316 duels—the joint 11th most in the league. He dominated opponents by winning 68% of his duels, including 55% of ground duels and an impressive 75% of aerial battles.

The teenager’s ability to play out from the back aligns well with De Zerbi’s tactical approach, making him a valuable asset for Tottenham moving forward.

The Rationale Behind Tottenham’s Defensive Restructuring

The addition of Robertson and Senesi will bring vital Premier League experience to Tottenham’s backline. Their leadership will be crucial as uncertainty looms over other defenders’ futures at the club.

Cristian Romero has fallen out of favor with fans, while Micky van de Ven has been frequently linked to potential moves to clubs like Liverpool.

The overhaul of Tottenham’s defense may also stem from De Zerbi’s demanding style of play, which requires defenders to effectively navigate through opposing lines. This could indicate that he does not believe his current defensive lineup can execute his vision, prompting a focused effort on strengthening this area during the summer transfer window.
