Al-Azhar Grand Imam Thanks Families of Abnub Incident Victims for Their Forgiveness
Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the families of the victims of the recent incident in the villages of Abnub, Assiut Governorate, for their noble decision to accept forgiveness and prioritize the greater good. He commended their moral integrity and ability to manage the aftermath of the tragedy while maintaining societal peace. Al-Tayyeb emphasized that such actions embody high human values and the teachings of religions that advocate for forgiveness, reform, and compassion among people, reflecting the authenticity of Upper Egyptians and their commitment to community safety and stability.
Additionally, the Grand Imam expressed deep appreciation to the Christian family of the late Shaheer Karam Shakir for their generous decision to forgive and accept reconciliation. He also acknowledged the Muslim families who chose to forgive and prioritize wisdom: the family of the late Omar Abdel Azim Hassan from the Ammar family, the family of the late Hanan Mansour Abdel Aal from the Abdel Mowly family, and the family of the late Mansour Ashraf Khalaf from the Awlad El-Sheikh family.
Furthermore, Al-Tayyeb extended his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims, affirming that Al-Azhar stands by them during this painful ordeal and shares in their grief. He prayed for God’s mercy upon the deceased, asking that they be granted a place in paradise and that their families find patience and solace.
Finally, he urged all families in Upper Egypt to emulate these honorable examples, reject the destructive cycle of revenge which only leads to further bloodshed and sorrow, and adhere to values of forgiveness promoted by divine teachings. He called for reliance on legal frameworks and prioritizing reasoned judgment to protect lives and ensure community security and stability.
