Abdel Aziz Abdel Shafi Criticizes Al Ahly’s Management After Restructuring

Written byFerdous Saeed

Abdel Aziz Abdel Shafi, a former star of Al Ahly SC, has expressed his concerns to the club’s management following recent decisions regarding the restructuring of its football sector.

The board, led by Mahmoud El Khatib, announced several significant changes, including the departure of Yassir Torab from the head coach position and the dismissal of Walid Salah El Din as director of football. Wail Gomaa has been appointed as his replacement, while Mohamed Youssef takes over as head of the youth sector from Walid Soliman.

In an interview on Al Nahaar TV, Abdel Shafi stated: “I see these changes as routine and not bringing anything new to Al Ahly. It has become too easy to replace one person with another.”.

He further added, “The frequency of changes at both the technical and administrative levels has increased significantly at Al Ahly lately. You bring in stars who stay for only a few months before being let go, like Walid Salah and Mohamed Ramadan, along with Walid Soliman.”.

Abdel Shafi concluded by emphasizing the negative impact these changes have on players’ mental health and their legacy. He noted, “This situation is detrimental to these stars and their reputations. It has escalated recently, and we are burning out potential leaders who could take on important roles in the future. We need to return to our traditional approach of nurturing our talents, building their confidence, and supporting them adequately.”.
