Liverpool’s Pursuit of Diomande Complicated by PSG Interest

Written byFerdous Saeed

Liverpool’s hopes of securing Yan Diomande as a replacement for Mohamed Salah have suffered a setback, as the RB Leipzig winger expressed admiration for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) amid speculation regarding his future.

With Salah’s recent departure, the Reds are actively seeking a new right winger. The Egyptian forward, who transformed from an unknown player to a Premier League icon during his nearly decade-long tenure at Liverpool, has left a significant void to fill.

Last season, Salah had a public disagreement with former Liverpool manager Arne Slot, contributing to the team’s disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League and their failure to retain the title.

Slot was dismissed at the end of the season despite leading the team to Champions League qualification. Liverpool is now poised to appoint Andoni Iraola as their new head coach, aiming to revive their dynamic playing style.

‘I Like Them a Lot’ – Diomande on PSG

Diomande, who has emerged as a key target for Liverpool this summer, indicated his preference for PSG when discussing his future. The 19-year-old told Telefoot 1, as reported by Sky Sports News, “It would be a pleasure to play [in Ligue 1], with one of the biggest clubs.”.

He added, “I do not think that adapting to French football would be difficult. So why not? But after all, I am an RB Leipzig player.”.

When asked about PSG’s recent success in winning back-to-back Champions Leagues, he acknowledged his father’s support for the club: “Yes, because my dad supports PSG. So it was great for me to see them win.” Diomande further fueled speculation about his future by stating, “Yeah, I like them a lot.”.

High Demand for Diomande Ahead of World Cup

Despite just one season at RB Leipzig, Diomande has become one of Europe’s most coveted young talents. His impressive performance last season saw him score 12 goals and provide eight assists in 33 Bundesliga matches, helping Leipzig secure third place and Champions League qualification.

This summer could further elevate Diomande’s profile as he is set to play a pivotal role for Ivory Coast in the World Cup. The team will face tough competition in their group from Ecuador, Germany, and Curacao.
