Written byFerdous Saeed

Manchester City and Chelsea are reportedly engaged in discussions regarding compensation for Enzo Maresca, who is poised for a return to the Etihad Stadium.

Maresca’s connection to Manchester City dates back to his time on Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff, and he has long been viewed as a potential successor to Guardiola once the latter decided to leave.

With Guardiola’s recent departure after a decade at the helm, speculation has intensified around Maresca being named City’s new manager. However, his official appointment has yet to be confirmed, pending negotiations with Chelsea.

Chelsea’s Compensation Demands Explained

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester City is still in talks with Chelsea concerning the financial aspects of Maresca’s potential appointment. Chelsea is seeking compensation due to Maresca’s departure by mutual consent just 18 months into a five-year contract.

The West London club believes they are entitled to financial remuneration from Manchester City. Additionally, there are concerns about the information Maresca could share regarding this season’s FA Cup and EFL Cup winners.

The matter has reportedly been handed over to legal representatives from both clubs, with Manchester City optimistic about reaching an agreement by the end of the week.

Maresca’s Appointment Imminent

Ideally, Manchester City would have preferred to have Maresca officially appointed by now; however, there are no significant concerns about the finalization of the deal. Chelsea has been aware of Maresca’s interest in taking over from Guardiola for some time and is expected to assert their position in these negotiations.

The exact amount of compensation remains uncertain, but it is anticipated that Chelsea will seek a considerable sum if Maresca makes the move.
