Tensions Rise in French National Team Camp Over Tickets and Bonuses Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The French national team is experiencing heightened tensions just days before the kickoff of the 2026 World Cup, as disagreements have emerged between players and officials from the French Football Federation regarding the number of tickets allocated to them and financial bonuses tied to their participation in the tournament.

France is preparing to compete in this edition of the World Cup, which will take place in June and feature 48 teams for the first time in history, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to a report by French newspaper “L’Équipe,” discontent has spread among players following a meeting with French Football Federation President Philippe Diallo, who outlined the ticket details for each player during the tournament.

The report indicated that the federation has allocated only eight tickets per player, including two complimentary tickets, while requiring payment for the remaining six. Players have deemed this allocation insufficient given the anticipated demand from family members and friends wishing to travel to support them during the World Cup.

The objections extend beyond ticket allocations; there has also been controversy surrounding the federation’s decision to revise performance bonus structures. This adjustment has led to reductions in some financial entitlements due to significant increases in travel and accommodation costs associated with hosting the tournament in North America.

Despite rising frustrations over recent hours, reports indicate that negotiations between player representatives and the federation have made notable progress, with signs pointing towards a potential agreement that could satisfy all parties before official competition begins.
