EgyptAir’s CEO Outlines Service Improvement Plans and New Routes
Ahmed Adel, the CEO of EgyptAir Holding Company, has shared insights into the comprehensive development plan currently underway at the airline. He emphasized that Egypt’s national carrier is committed to enhancing its global presence by opening new routes and expanding its fleet, despite the geopolitical and economic challenges facing the aviation industry worldwide.
In an interview on “Masaa DMC” from Brazil on Thursday, Adel announced that the airline plans to launch a direct flight to Chicago, USA, by the end of this month. This follows the successful inauguration of a route to Los Angeles last month. He noted that the delivery of new aircraft will help increase flight frequencies on existing routes to meet rising demand.
Adel reassured the public about fuel availability at Egyptian airports, including Cairo International Airport. He explained that fuel costs account for 35% to 40% of operational expenses and stated that EgyptAir is closely monitoring the situation in Europe and Asia to mitigate any potential impacts from supply chain disruptions.
The process of acquiring new aircraft is technically and temporally complex, according to Adel. Typically, delivery takes between 18 to 24 months; however, recent global crises such as COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine have caused delays lasting several years for some international companies.
He mentioned that EgyptAir has already begun receiving batches of contracted aircraft this year, positively impacting flight punctuality and service quality.
Adel is currently participating in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) General Assembly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This gathering provides an opportunity to engage with industry leaders and stakeholders regarding contracts and collaborative efforts. He also highlighted upcoming elections for IATA’s Board of Directors to represent North Africa and the Middle East.
