Cairo Governor Praises ‘Art Street’ Initiative for Revitalizing Downtown
Dr. Ibrahim Saber, the Governor of Cairo, recently visited the ‘Art Street’ initiative in the Triangle of the Stock Exchange and Sherif Street in downtown Cairo. This visit came as activities resumed following the Eid al-Adha holiday, allowing him to oversee the ongoing cultural and artistic performances.
Accompanying the governor during his tour were Dr. Ahmed Anwar Attia El-Adl, Deputy Governor for the Western Region, and Dr. Nabila Hassan, President of the Academy of Arts.
During his visit, Governor Saber observed a variety of musical performances, artistic displays, and heritage workshops that attracted a significant audience, including families, youth, and both Arab and foreign guests.
The governor emphasized that this initiative has successfully revitalized downtown Cairo, transforming it into an open cultural and artistic space accessible to all.
He noted that ‘Art Street’, a collaborative effort between the Cairo Governorate, the Ministry of Culture, and the Academy of Arts, aims to turn city streets into platforms for creativity and art. This cultural project is designed to promote fine arts while providing opportunities for young talents to showcase their work and engage directly with the public. Such efforts contribute to enhancing cultural awareness, improving public taste, and highlighting Cairo’s civilizational image.

The governor further announced that activities will continue on a weekly basis every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This aligns with the government’s vision to support cultural and creative industries while expanding community participation in artistic and cultural activities. He assured that the governorate is committed to providing all necessary support for the initiative’s success and continuous development.
Dr. Saber added that the significant success and public turnout at ‘Art Street’ since its inception reflect citizens’ eagerness for such meaningful events. He indicated that efforts are underway to replicate this model in several other areas to enhance Cairo’s status as a capital of culture, arts, and creativity.
