Belgian Tourism Delegation Visits Cairo and Alexandria to Promote Egyptian Attractions
As part of its efforts to promote Egypt as a tourist destination in the Belgian market, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities organized an introductory trip for a delegation of 32 leading tour operators and representatives from Belgian tourism companies. This initiative was carried out by the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion in collaboration with the Belgian tour operator 7Plus, aiming to showcase Egypt’s diverse cultural and tourist offerings, particularly in Cairo and Alexandria.
Dr. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, emphasized that the Belgian market is considered one of the promising European markets for Egyptian tourism. He noted that this trip aligns with the authority’s strategy to explore new avenues for collaboration with tourism partners in Belgium, building on the significant growth in Belgian tourist arrivals to Egypt.
The itinerary included visits to several prominent historical and archaeological sites that reflect the richness and diversity of Egypt’s civilization through the ages. In Cairo, the delegation toured the Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Old Cairo, and Salah El-Din Citadel. The Alexandria leg featured visits to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Qaitbay Citadel, the Greco-Roman Museum, Pompey’s Pillar, and the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa.
The members of the delegation expressed their admiration for the unique variety of cultural, historical, and archaeological attractions they encountered, highlighting the exceptional blend of history and rich heritage found in Egyptian cities.
During their visit, Mr. Emad Fathy, Head of the Central Administration for Tourism Offices at the authority, held a meeting with the Belgian delegation to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation and increase tourist traffic from Belgium to Egypt. This meeting was attended by Ms. Hiam Farouk, Director of Western Europe Unit at the General Administration for Foreign Offices at the authority, and Ms. Iman Raouf, a member of the Western Europe Unit.
