Written byFerdous Saeed

Spain secured a convincing 4-0 victory against Saudi Arabia in their second group stage match of the 2026 World Cup, marking their first win in the tournament and bringing them closer to securing a spot in the knockout stage.

With this result, Spain has accumulated 4 points, placing them at the top of their group, while Saudi Arabia remains with just 1 point as they await the outcome of the match between Uruguay and Cape Verde to determine the group’s standings.

The Spanish team entered the match looking to recover from their earlier draw with Cape Verde, while Saudi Arabia aimed to build on their positive draw against Uruguay in their opening game.

Spain dominated the match from the outset, with Lamine Yamal opening the scoring in the 11th minute after a well-timed pass from Mikel Oyarzabal inside the penalty area. The Spanish side continued their offensive pressure, and Oyarzabal doubled the lead in the 21st minute. He then added a third goal just six minutes later, ending the first half with a comfortable 3-0 advantage.

In the second half, Spain maintained their dominance and scored a fourth goal in the 49th minute when Saudi defender Hassan Al-Tambakti inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, confirming Spain’s superiority until the final whistle.
