Triathlon and Beach Volleyball Finals Kick Off at Special Olympics Regional Games in Sousse 2026
The finals in triathlon and beach volleyball have commenced today as part of the tenth regional games of the Special Olympics for the Middle East and North Africa, taking place in Sousse, Tunisia. The event is marked by a competitive atmosphere with wide participation from athletes representing various Special Olympics programs across the region.
These finals follow several days of intense competitions, including the preliminary rounds and the open water swimming finals. Athletes showcased remarkable skills that reflected their extensive preparations leading up to the games. Attention is now focused on the concluding events in triathlon and beach volleyball, where fierce competition for medals is expected, embodying the spirit of fair play and the values of Special Olympics aimed at empowerment, inclusion, and highlighting the abilities of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Alongside the games, a three-day regional youth leaders conference for North Africa was held under the theme “ONE VISION, ONE VOICE,” managed by Ms. Nibal Fatouni, Head of Initiatives at Special Olympics International for the Middle East and North Africa, and Ms. Marwa Ramadan, Director of Youth Leaders Program at Special Olympics International. The conference saw participation from youth programs across various North African countries.
In conjunction with the games, a sporting event for the Unified Champion Schools program was conducted under the leadership of Ms. Samira Al-Adawi, Director of Youth Activities at Special Olympics International for the Middle East and North Africa. This initiative aimed to promote community inclusion through sports.
The event featured an exhibition match in unified beach volleyball, involving Engineer Ayman Abdel Wahab, Regional President of Special Olympics International for the Middle East and North Africa, alongside students from schools in Sousse and athletes from participating delegations. This match exemplified collaboration among all participants and served as a practical demonstration of Special Olympics’ mission to build more inclusive communities that embrace diversity.
A health program was also organized during the games, offering specialized clinics for eye, ear, and dental examinations to ensure the well-being of athletes from various delegations while benefiting from health services provided by Special Olympics’ health program.
The health clinics witnessed significant turnout from participating athletes who underwent specialized medical examinations conducted by volunteer doctors certified by Special Olympics International. This initiative aligns with Special Olympics’ commitment to enhancing athletes’ quality of life while ensuring they receive necessary healthcare alongside developing their athletic capabilities.
All eyes are now on Egypt’s Special Olympics champions competing in the finals as they strive to achieve further successes and raise the Egyptian flag on victory podiums, bolstered by substantial support for the Egyptian delegation at this major regional sporting event.
