Egypt Dominates Open Water Swimming Events at Sousse 2026 with Five Golds and One Silver
Sousse – Ahly Online – Egyptian athletes from the Special Olympics continued to shine at the 10th Regional Games for the Special Olympics in the Middle East and North Africa, held in Sousse 2026. The Egyptian open water swimming team achieved a remarkable feat by winning five gold medals and one silver medal during the open water events, reaffirming their ability to compete and excel across various sports included in the games program.
The Egyptian team’s performance was outstanding, with swimmer Mohand Mohamed Ali securing a gold medal, while swimmer Mohamed El-Shazly earned a silver medal. Additionally, swimmer Malak Ahmed clinched a gold medal, and swimmer Birhan Mohamed also won gold. Omar Essam added another gold medal to the team’s tally, and swimmer Mahmoud Rizk completed the team’s success with another gold medal.
With these results, the Egyptian open water swimming team has raised its total to five gold medals and one silver medal, highlighting the exceptional skill level displayed by the athletes under the guidance of head coach Dr. Mostafa Magdy and assistant coach Aia Allah Magdy during the regional games. This achievement reflects the success of their training and preparation programs leading up to this major regional event for Special Olympics in the area.
Amr Mohy Eldin, head of the Egyptian delegation, expressed his great happiness with the results achieved by Egypt’s champions. He emphasized that these accomplishments are a result of the hard work put in by both athletes and coaching staff during their preparation period. He noted that what has been achieved showcases the commitment and determination embodied by Egypt’s Special Olympics athletes.
He added that today’s achievements represent an important step in Egypt’s journey at the regional games but are not the end of their efforts. He expressed full confidence in the athletes’ ability to continue striving and focusing during upcoming competitions to secure more medals and raise Egypt’s name high across various sports in the coming days.
The finals for triathlon events are scheduled for tomorrow morning, with Egypt participating under head coach Ahmed Mostafa, featuring athletes Omar Essam Barakat and Mahmoud Rizk Muslim.
