Egypt’s Special Olympics Team Enters Training Camp Ahead of Regional Games in Sousse 2026

In preparation for the upcoming 10th Regional Special Olympics Games for the Middle East and North Africa, set to take place in Sousse, Tunisia, the Egyptian Special Olympics delegation has entered a closed training camp at a military facility in Nasr City. The team is scheduled to travel to Tunisia tomorrow to compete in beach sports.

The head of the Egyptian Special Olympics, Engineer Hani Mahmoud, is closely monitoring all organizational, administrative, and technical arrangements for the delegation. He is ensuring that all preparations regarding travel, accommodation, and technical equipment for the participating teams are finalized to provide an optimal environment for a commendable representation that reflects the stature of Egyptian sports and the Egyptian Special Olympics.

Continuing with final preparations, Engineer Hani Mahmoud has been in contact with Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, to update her on all arrangements related to the delegation’s travel to Sousse. He confirmed that all necessary arrangements are complete to ensure a dignified participation that upholds the name of Egypt and its Special Olympics.

Mahmoud emphasized that participating in the 10th Regional Games represents an important milestone for the athletes of the Egyptian Special Olympics and provides a new opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities and strong will. He noted that the delegation aims to deliver outstanding performances and achieve results that reflect the support received from the Egyptian state and its various institutions.

The Egyptian delegation includes administrative, technical, medical staff, and athletes, led by Amr Mohy El-Din. On the technical side, Ahmed Mostafa leads the triathlon team as head coach with athletes Omar Essam Barakat and Mahmoud Rizk Muslim. Mustafa Magid heads open water swimming competitions as head coach, supported by coaches Ayat Allah Magdy and athletes Mohamed Osama El-Shazly, Mohannad Mohamed Abdel-Samad, Malak Ahmed Farag, and Breihan Mohamed Suleiman.

Additionally, Egypt will participate in a regional youth conference alongside the games through leading athlete Aya Hassan Shaltout and partner leader Farah Emad Mohy El-Din, accompanied by Dr. Batoul Ashraf Gamal El-Din. The conference aims to develop youth leadership skills, promote concepts of community integration, and provide opportunities for athletes to be active partners in decision-making within the Special Olympics movement.

The Egyptian delegation is set to depart tomorrow morning for Sousse to participate in this event amid high hopes of achieving positive results and continuing the successes of the Egyptian Special Olympics on both regional and international levels.
