Social Solidarity Ministry Responds to 373 Reports of Street Children in Six Months

Written byNoha El Shafie

Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, received a report detailing the efforts of the Central Rapid Intervention Team and local teams across various governorates in addressing issues related to homeless children and those at risk during the first half of 2026. This initiative is part of the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the social protection system and providing immediate responses to humanitarian cases.

The report indicated that intervention teams handled 373 reports involving children and girls from infancy up to 18 years old. Various interventions were implemented according to the nature of each case, ensuring the best interests of the children while providing necessary care and protection.

Among the interventions, 47 children were placed in suitable social care facilities, while 18 were reintegrated with their families after confirming a safe home environment. Additionally, five children were transferred for medical care in hospitals, and support was provided to five others. The remaining cases were addressed through field interventions and direct assistance based on individual circumstances. However, intervention could not be carried out for 52 children at that time due to their refusal to cooperate during the assessment.

The reports originated from several governorates including Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Qalyubia, Sharqia, Aswan, Dakahlia, Gharbia, Menoufia, Minya, Beni Suef, and Port Said. This distribution reflects the extensive scope of field responses and the presence of rapid intervention teams nationwide.

The local teams have also been equipped with mobile units and modern technology to record reports efficiently and enhance immediate responses to cases.

Minister Morsi emphasized that the ministry adopts a rapid intervention approach prioritizing immediate responses to protect at-risk children. The goal is to reintegrate children into their families whenever possible or provide safe alternative care when family integration is not feasible, ensuring they have a dignified and secure life.

The Ministry of Social Solidarity urges citizens to report cases of homeless children or those at risk on hotlines 16439 or 16528 for unified government complaints or via WhatsApp at 01557582104. Prompt reporting is essential for ensuring timely intervention and providing necessary protection and care.
