Egypt’s Foreign Minister and Trump Advisor Discuss Middle East, Libya, and Horn of Africa Issues

Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held a phone conversation today with Majid Boulous, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President on Arab and African Affairs. The two officials exchanged views on several regional issues of mutual interest.

Both sides praised the depth of Egyptian-American relations and the fruitful cooperation between the two friendly countries. This collaboration was highlighted during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s positive and constructive meeting with President Donald Trump at the G7 summit in France, where various regional matters were discussed. They expressed their desire to work together to enhance bilateral relations in a way that serves the interests of both nations.

During the call, Abdel Aati congratulated his American counterpart on the recent Memorandum of Understanding reached between the United States and Iran. He expressed hope that this significant development would mark a turning point towards a new phase of de-escalation, trust-building, and restoring security and stability in the Middle East.

The conversation also addressed developments in Libya. The Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position supporting Libya’s unity and stability, emphasizing the importance of unifying national institutions and reaching a comprehensive political settlement through a Libyan-led process that paves the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest opportunity.

Additionally, they discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa, where Abdel Aati stressed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining security and stability in the region. He highlighted the importance of supporting national institutions and preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Horn of Africa countries.
