Egypt Welcomes US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding

The Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt has welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Egyptian government emphasized the significant importance of this step in reducing tensions and preventing further escalation in the region, aiming to restore security and stability in the Middle East.

In its statement, the Egyptian presidency expressed deep appreciation for President Trump’s leadership and wisdom, as well as his commitment to achieving peace and resolving disputes through peaceful means. It commended his sincere efforts in reaching a mutually agreed text for the memorandum.

Egypt also acknowledged Iran’s positive engagement through the signing of the memorandum. The country valued the full coordination that took place with regional partners to achieve this satisfactory outcome, highlighting the diligent efforts made by Pakistan, Qatar, and other members of the Quartet, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Egypt hopes this initiative will mark a pivotal turning point towards a new phase of de-escalation, trust-building, and joint cooperation. It calls for full adherence to the memorandum’s spirit and text as a precursor to a final sustainable agreement that addresses all parties’ concerns while supporting efforts for lasting security and stability in the region.

The Egyptian government anticipates that this recent development related to halting hostilities with Iran will create a conducive environment for addressing various regional conflicts, particularly the Palestinian issue, which is central to the Middle East conflict. Egypt reiterated its appreciation for President Trump’s dedicated efforts in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza. Furthermore, it hopes that the recently signed memorandum will lead to a complete cessation of Israeli assaults on Lebanon and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories while respecting its sovereignty.

Egypt expressed hope that upcoming technical discussions between U.S. and Iranian officials will successfully enhance opportunities for more comprehensive and sustainable agreements that contribute to regional stability and reduce tensions. The country affirmed its readiness to provide contributions that would support and ensure successful negotiations.
