Egypt’s Health Minister Emphasizes Role in Regional Medical Technology Advancement

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, convened a meeting with officials from Mecomed, a company specializing in medical technology, to explore avenues for collaboration in health innovation and modern medical technologies.

The discussion aimed to enhance Egypt’s position as a regional hub for healthcare and medical innovation by building human capacity in these fields.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted the government’s commitment to adopting the latest medical solutions and technologies to develop the healthcare system according to international standards. He pointed out that Egypt possesses the necessary resources to strengthen its regional role in this sector, positively impacting the quality of services provided to citizens and fostering international cooperation.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, noted that the meeting reviewed opportunities for collaboration in supporting health innovation, exchanging international expertise, and developing policies that support medical technology, particularly in imaging and radiology.

The two sides also discussed ways to develop healthcare personnel and build capacity in digital health, establish regulations related to telemedicine, assess health technologies, and expedite the availability of advanced technologies while enhancing system readiness to accommodate modern innovations.

The spokesperson emphasized the importance of leveraging Egypt’s experience to support African nations and strengthen its role as a regional center for knowledge transfer and capacity building in radiology. This initiative aims to bolster health systems across the continent and achieve sustainable health development.

Attendees at the meeting included Major General Amr Ayad, Assistant Minister for Information Systems and Digital Transformation; Dr. Mohamed Fawzy, Ministerial Advisor for Radiology; Dr. Fatma Shoman, Head of Central Blood Operations; and Dr. Susan Zanaty, Director General of External Health Relations.

From Mecomed, attendees included Mr. Rami Ragab, Chief Executive Officer; Ms. Rana Shalhoub, Regulatory Affairs Manager; and Mr. Mohamed El-Maghazi, Head of Market Access and Government Affairs for North and West Africa.
