Food Safety Authority Seizes Expired and Spoiled Foods in Khosous
The Food Safety Authority conducted an extensive inspection campaign in Khosous, Qalyubia Governorate, in collaboration with the Consumer Protection Agency, the Qalyubia Directorate of Supply, the Qalyubia Veterinary Directorate, and the Khosous City Council. This initiative is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to enhance food safety oversight and ensure the quality of products available in markets, following directives from Dr. Tarek El-Hobi, head of the Food Safety Authority, to intensify inspection campaigns across various governorates.
The campaign was led by Dr. Walid Hassan, head of the Central Administration for Branch Affairs at the authority, with participation from Dr. Ahmed Fawzy, director of local market supervision; Dr. Sabry Zaghloul, head of the Qalyubia branch; Dr. Mahmoud Shakir from the local market operations room; and engineer Osama El-Qadi, local market supervisor in Qalyubia. They were joined by inspectors from the authority’s branch involved in inspection activities.
The operation targeted several food establishments in Khosous, where inspectors reviewed 12 facilities to verify compliance with food safety standards and the suitability of products for sale.
The inspection resulted in the destruction of food items deemed unfit for human consumption. Additionally, various expired and unverified meat products and poultry were seized due to lack of documentation proving their source, alongside other products showing visible signs of spoilage.
Five violation reports were filed against establishments found non-compliant during inspections, with legal actions initiated against offenders in coordination with relevant authorities.
This campaign aligns with the authority’s continuous plan to strengthen monitoring over food trading in markets and identify any practices that may jeopardize food safety or consumer health. It aims to enhance compliance levels with health and technical requirements within food establishments.
The Food Safety Authority reaffirms its commitment to ongoing regulatory efforts across all governorates in collaboration with relevant entities to ensure safe food reaches consumers while enforcing strict legal measures against any violations that threaten public health or contravene food safety standards.
