Portugal is set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo tomorrow, Wednesday, at the NRG Stadium as part of the opening round of Group 11 in the 2026 World Cup.
The World Cup 2026 kicked off on June 11 with a match between South Africa and Mexico, and is scheduled to conclude on July 19.
In remarks reported by FIFA’s official website, Fernandes stated, “It is a great honor for us to have Cristiano as a fellow citizen, teammate, and player who can bring us closer to winning the World Cup.”.
He added, “I believe we can always learn from him. He has shown perseverance throughout his career and possesses a winning mentality. He never settles for what he has achieved and always strives for more; these are all positive traits we have gleaned from his career.”.
Fernandes continued, “Cristiano’s ability to play for twenty years illustrates the level of commitment required to maintain peak performance. My greatest hope is that he repeats that with us in the World Cup and helps us as he always has, scoring more goals and bringing us closer to our objective.”.
