Portugal’s World Cup Camp Faces Tensions Over Ronaldo’s Role
Debate continues to swirl within the Portugal national team camp following recent comments made by João Neves, who stated that Cristiano Ronaldo does not receive special treatment and is treated like any other player.
Francesco Conceição, a winger for Juventus, joined the discussion about the captain’s role during a press conference held on Sunday. His remarks are seen by some as a continuation of the ongoing discourse within the squad.
In statements reported by the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Conceição acknowledged Ronaldo as one of the greatest goal scorers in football history but emphasized that the team does not rely on passing him the ball directly. He noted that decisions on the field are made based on who is best positioned at any given moment.
The Portuguese player added that Ronaldo serves as a role model for everyone in the squad due to his illustrious career, relentless passion, and constant desire for victory. He mentioned that Ronaldo approaches training as if it were his last.
Conceição concluded his comments by affirming that Ronaldo is just another player in the group and that the team’s success relies on collective cooperation.
