Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz today in Évian, France, on the sidelines of the G7 summit.

During the meeting, President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the development partnership between Egypt and Germany, highlighting ongoing developmental cooperation programs. He praised the steps taken to enhance political consultations and elevate the bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

He extended an invitation to Chancellor Merz to visit Egypt this year for further discussions on bilateral relations and cooperation on mutual interests.

President Sisi also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to maintain positive economic growth rates despite international and regional geopolitical challenges. He emphasized Egypt’s interest in expanding cooperation with Germany into non-traditional areas, particularly clean energy, green transition, vocational training, technical education, and skilled labor mobility. These initiatives aim to meet the needs of the German labor market while enhancing systematic migration pathways for mutual benefit.

According to Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, Chancellor Merz acknowledged the notable momentum in relations between the two countries in recent years, especially concerning economic and trade ties that deepen their close friendship. He affirmed Germany’s view of Egypt as a strong partner for both Germany and the European Union in addressing shared challenges and achieving stability and economic integration across the Mediterranean. The Chancellor expressed gratitude for President Sisi’s invitation to visit Egypt and confirmed his eagerness to accept it at the earliest opportunity.

The meeting also addressed several regional issues of mutual concern. Both leaders agreed on the importance of supporting peaceful resolutions to regional crises, particularly the Palestinian issue and the Iranian crisis, which are vital for ensuring security and stability in the region while safeguarding national interests.

In this context, President Sisi stressed that priority must not wane regarding the Palestinian issue and urged for the implementation of phase two of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts in this regard, coordinating with the United States and other mediators, while expressing hope that Germany would support these efforts toward establishing a Palestinian state in accordance with relevant international resolutions.
