EU Commissioner Highlights Egypt’s Key Role in Regional Security and Stability

On Monday, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Dubravka Suica, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean. This meeting aimed to coordinate and consult on enhancing Egyptian-European relations and advancing areas of mutual cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Abdel Aty praised the progress in Egyptian-European relations, particularly following last year’s Egyptian-European summit, which provided a significant boost to joint cooperation efforts. He emphasized the importance of building on the positive outcomes from this summit and continuing to strengthen economic, investment, and trade cooperation across various sectors.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the ongoing collaboration in migration management, stressing the need to enhance regular migration pathways and labor mobility. He called for developing capacity-building programs and vocational training that align with the mutual interests of both parties.
The discussion also included an exchange of views on the Action Plan of the Mediterranean Charter. Minister Abdel Aty presented Egypt’s perspective on the charter along with several proposed initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing integration among Mediterranean countries to address shared challenges while capitalizing on available economic, social, and cultural opportunities.
Furthermore, he updated the European official on Egypt’s views regarding rapid regional developments and its efforts to resolve conflicts in the area. He welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran.
In response, Commissioner Suica reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Egypt, recognizing it as a key partner in the southern Mediterranean region. She commended Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting regional security and stability as well as its efforts to tackle common challenges and enhance cooperation across both shores of the Mediterranean.
