Comoros Commends Al-Azhar’s Efforts, Invites Grand Imam for Visit

On Sunday, the office of Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, received a letter of thanks and appreciation from Mohamed Mbaye, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Comoros. In his message, he expressed profound gratitude for his meeting with the Grand Imam and acknowledged his efforts in promoting the true teachings of Islam and supporting Islamic causes, particularly in Africa.

The Comorian Foreign Minister emphasized his great pride and immense happiness regarding their meeting on May 24, 2026, at Al-Azhar University. He highlighted the deep historical ties between Al-Azhar and the Comoros, praising the institution’s leading role in promoting values of moderation and serving Islamic issues.

He also appreciated Al-Azhar’s initiatives to welcome Comorian students and provide them with scholarships. He affirmed that this cooperation serves as a fundamental pillar in strengthening fraternal relations and enhancing cultural communication between Al-Azhar and the Comoros.

Furthermore, the Comorian Foreign Minister extended an official invitation to the Grand Imam to visit the Comoros. This visit would mark Sheikh Al-Azhar’s first trip to the Indian Ocean islands, contributing to solidifying historical relations between both parties and opening new horizons for cooperation in scientific, advocacy, and cultural fields.

He stated that such a visit would be cherished by the Comorian people and would embody the spiritual and scholarly bonds between Al-Azhar and the Republic of Comoros.
