Expert Calls for Innovative Solutions to Strengthen Egypt’s Poultry Industry
Dr. Tharwat Imbabi, an assistant professor at Benha University’s Faculty of Agriculture and head of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee of the Awareness Party, emphasized that poultry and egg production in Egypt is not merely an economic activity but a strategic pillar for national food security and the primary source of animal protein for citizens.
In a press statement today, Dr. Imbabi underscored that addressing current challenges and consumer reluctance due to recurring rumors requires innovative and unconventional solutions that go beyond simple price reductions or typical advertising campaigns. He noted that “the speed of fear spreading surpasses the speed at which scientific information reaches consumers.”.
Roadmap for Sector Development and Consumer Confidence Restoration
Dr. Imbabi proposed a comprehensive vision to uplift the industry, focusing on several technological, legislative, and investment aspects.
Digital Identity and Transparency
He called for the establishment of a digital system that provides each product (whether poultry or eggs) with an “electronic identity,” allowing consumers to access production data, veterinary inspections, and product origins via their mobile phones. This would make transparency an integral part of product quality.
National Quality Index
The transition to a concept of “measurable trust” could be achieved by launching a national index to evaluate farms and production facilities based on biosecurity and sustainability standards. This would enable consumers to purchase products bearing verified trust certificates.
Smart Platform to Combat Misinformation
Dr. Imbabi suggested creating a platform powered by artificial intelligence to monitor misleading information and respond promptly with insights from university experts and regulatory bodies, addressing the informational gap exploited by rumors.
National Protein Bank
To manage surplus production, he proposed establishing a “Protein Bank” to absorb excess output and convert it into strategic reserves (such as egg powder or frozen products), protecting producers from losses while ensuring price stability in the markets.
Enhancing National and Export Roles
The head of the Agriculture Committee at the Awareness Party explained that linking production with social protection programs and school nutrition represents a direct investment in community health. He asserted that Egypt has all the necessary components to become a regional export hub for African and Arab markets, provided it adopts a proactive crisis strategy.
Dr. Tharwat Imbabi concluded his remarks by stressing the role of universities and research centers in providing practical solutions for producers, stating: “Protecting this industry is a shared responsibility among the state, private sector, and academics; investing in it is an investment in food security for future generations.”.
