Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, inspected the ongoing work on the coastal road efficiency improvement and development project during his visit to Beheira Governorate today.
The project is part of a comprehensive plan implemented by the Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Transport, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to enhance and upgrade the national road network.
Upon his arrival at the inspection site, Madbouly was welcomed by Major General Hossam El-Din Mustafa, Assistant Minister of Transport for Roads and Bridges, along with several leaders from the General Authority for Roads and Bridges.
During his visit, the Prime Minister was briefed on the coastal road improvement project, which stretches 800 kilometers from Port Said to Sallum. This key route connects major Egyptian ports along the Mediterranean Sea—Port Said, Damietta, Alexandria, and Gergoub—and passes through seven governorates: Port Said, Damietta, Dakahlia, Kafr El-Sheikh, Beheira, Alexandria, and Matrouh. It also serves several industrial areas in Port Said and New Damietta as well as new cities like New Damietta, New Mansoura, and New Rashid.
From a viewpoint overlooking the project area, Madbouly learned about the progress of development works along a specific section of the coastal road in Beheira. This section extends from its intersection with the Cairo/Alexandria Agricultural Road to its junction with the Cairo/Alexandria Desert Road (Sector 7), covering a length of 13 kilometers. The General Authority for Roads and Bridges is executing improvements that include building a comprehensive road in a southbound direction towards Port Said. This will feature three concrete service lanes and three asphalt lanes in each direction while minimizing encroachment on agricultural land.
The tour also covered ongoing enhancements from Port Said to Sallum; work is underway on a 64-kilometer stretch from Damietta (the furniture city) to Baltim via Gamasa and New Mansoura. Of this stretch, 37 kilometers fall within Damietta Governorate and 27 kilometers within Dakahlia Governorate. A concrete service road is being constructed with a width of 12 meters in each direction. The main road will be widened to six traffic lanes in each direction—three concrete lanes designated for trucks to separate their movement from smaller vehicles for increased safety.
Additionally, 23 overhead bridges are being constructed to facilitate access for road users and adjacent entities. Improvements have also been completed on sections from Gamasa (km 80) to Burullus (km 130) as well as between Alexandria and Matrouh. Work is ongoing on a concrete truck road starting from Damietta (km 50) to Black Sand Dredger (km 132), alongside upgrades on various points along a total stretch of 240 kilometers from Matrouh to Sallum.
