Egypt and Tanzania Strengthen Economic Ties in East Africa

Dr. Mohamed Farid, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, welcomed Denis Londo, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tanzania, along with Richard Molaibaba Makanzu, the Tanzanian Ambassador to Egypt. The meeting focused on enhancing economic, trade, and investment relations between the two nations.

Also present were Alaa El-Bayly, head of the Egyptian General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sharif, head of the Commercial Representation Authority, and Dr. Amani Al-Wasal, head of the Trade Agreements Sector.

The discussions included strategies to boost trade exchange and facilitate Egyptian product access to Tanzania and East African markets. They also addressed updating commodity lists and customs classification codes (HS Codes) to incorporate new products that support bilateral trade in response to business community proposals.

Both sides explored organizing reciprocal trade and investment missions as well as specialized exhibitions to enable business communities to discover opportunities and forge new partnerships. Additionally, they discussed collaboration in the livestock sector, meat production and processing, and meeting halal certification requirements to facilitate trade.

Dr. Farid emphasized that Tanzania is a vital partner for Egypt in East Africa. He highlighted efforts to update commodity lists and expand traded goods to enhance commerce and open new fields for cooperation.

He also stressed the importance of organizing a trade and investment mission from Egypt to Tanzania that includes an exhibition of Egyptian products to foster direct communication among business communities.

The minister noted the significance of collaborating in livestock management while expanding investment partnerships across production, manufacturing, and distribution stages. This includes completing technical requirements for slaughterhouse accreditation and halal certification according to established standards.

Moreover, he pointed out the necessity of establishing logistical centers in Dar es Salaam to support the distribution of Egyptian products within Tanzania and neighboring markets while enhancing supply chain efficiency and increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.

Dr. Farid also affirmed Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise in creating new cities, urban planning, industrial zones, and logistics hubs.

In response, Deputy Minister Londo expressed Tanzania’s appreciation for its relationship with Egypt. He underscored their commitment to expanding economic cooperation and investment while facilitating increased participation from Egyptian companies in various sectors.
