Egypt’s Health Ministry Closes Al-Masa Medical Center for Violations
The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the closure and sealing of Al-Masa Medical Center located on Abdullah El-Rifai Street, off the Zakat Foundation Street in Cairo. The action was taken due to violations of health regulations and the discovery of an unlicensed drug storage facility within the premises.
This decision follows an intensive inspection campaign conducted by a committee from the Free Treatment Administration in Cairo, in coordination with the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Supply Investigations Unit. This initiative aligns with directives from Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, to enhance oversight on private medical facilities to protect citizens.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated that the inspection on June 9, 2026, revealed that the center was operating without a license, violating Law No. 135 of 2004 regulating medical facilities. Additionally, an unlicensed storage facility was found on the second floor containing large quantities of medicines and medical supplies stored under unsuitable conditions (high temperatures and poor ventilation), which could compromise their effectiveness.

Dr. Hisham Zaki, head of the Central Administration for Non-Governmental Medical Institutions and Licensing, confirmed that the facility has been sealed with red wax, and all seized items have been confiscated. Necessary reports have been filed for presentation to the Public Prosecution.
The spokesperson further noted that three children from nurseries and one woman receiving care were transferred to hospitals under the Ministry of Health and Population in coordination with the ambulance service to ensure their safety and continued access to appropriate medical care.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to ongoing extensive oversight campaigns and reiterated its stance against any violations that threaten the health and safety of Egyptian citizens.
