Egypt Committed to Sharing Expertise for Sustainable Development in Africa

On Tuesday, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, engaged in a series of phone calls with several African leaders. These included Mahmoud Ali Youssef, Chairperson of the African Union Commission; Edward Bizimana, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burundi; Tete Antonio, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola; Mahmoud Thabit, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania; and Teresa Wagner, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The discussions aimed at ongoing consultation and coordination regarding priorities for joint African action.

Said Ambassador Tamer Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these communications focused on enhancing African coordination to establish peace, security, and stability across the continent while advancing sustainable development efforts. They also exchanged views on various regional and continental issues of mutual interest and discussed the latest health conditions in Africa, as well as strategies to enhance collective responses to health challenges. Minister Abdel Aty reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to share its resources, expertise, and technical support in this area, reflecting Egypt’s supportive role towards its African counterparts and its commitment to strengthening health security on the continent.

The spokesperson added that the calls also addressed proposed new dates and preparations for holding the eighth mid-year coordination summit of the African Union and the 49th session of the African Union Executive Council. These events are set to take place in Egypt later this year and will contribute to enhancing coordination among African countries and the African Union Commission while promoting continental economic integration efforts.
