The Ministry of Local Development and Environment, in collaboration with civil society organizations and development partners, is actively organizing events and activities to celebrate World Environment Day 2026. These initiatives aim to enhance environmental awareness and encourage community participation in addressing environmental and climate challenges.

As part of this effort, the “Environment Without Borders” Association, in coordination with the Writers Association for Environment and Development and the ministry, hosted a scientific seminar titled “Nature Conservation Programs and Enhancing Nature-Based Solutions to Combat egypts-minister-of-water-resources-announces-completion-of-11-groundwater-drinking-stations-in-congo/">Climate Change” from June 2 to June 5, 2026. The event featured a selection of experts specializing in environmental issues and biodiversity.

Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, emphasized that civil society organizations are key partners in supporting the state’s efforts to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. She highlighted their active role in raising environmental awareness and implementing initiatives that support sustainable development.

The minister praised the activities organized by NGOs on the occasion of World Environment Day, which contribute to raising awareness about environmental issues and climate change while fostering citizen engagement in nature conservation efforts. She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuing collaboration with civil society organizations and expanding partnership areas to support nature-based solutions and enhance local communities’ capacity to address climate change impacts.

The events included specialized scientific sessions and a field visit to Wadi El Gemal Protected Area, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the ministry and civil society organizations to support environmental protection efforts in Egypt. The initiative also focuses on developing awareness campaigns and environmental projects while expanding new renewable energy programs and sustainable agriculture initiatives, contributing to mitigating climate change effects and achieving sustainable development goals.

During the seminar, results from a carbon storage project through mangrove cultivation were presented as a pioneering national model for applying voluntary carbon market mechanisms. This initiative supports funding for conservation programs and management of protected areas while enhancing sustainable development and improving livelihoods for local communities within these regions.

The events facilitated constructive scientific discussions focused on raising environmental awareness, strengthening partnerships between government entities and civil society organizations, and activating cooperation protocols signed between the Environmental Affairs Agency, the Writers Association for Environment and Development, and Environment Without Borders Association. These efforts aim to bolster national initiatives for conserving natural resources while supporting nature-based solutions to combat climate change challenges.
